Find Your Story Within Contest – Week 9

March 9, 2012

A plot is a problem. Its solution is a story.

For many writers, “plot” brings up unpleasant associations, like the words “calculus” and “outline.” The idea of a plot is overwhelming because we think we have to have it all figured out from the outset. Be kind to yourself—just like your character, you don’t have to know where you’re going in order to begin.  Just think in terms of conflict.

In 250 words or less, describe a character who wants something they are in jeopardy of getting. Make it something real or concrete, such as opening a jar with a stubborn lid or finding a parking place.

To enter, send an email to thestorywithinbook@gmail.com with your full name, email address and written entry. Week nine entries are due on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
