Find Your Story Within Contest – Week 1

January 13, 2012

Throughout the next several weeks I’ll be hosting the “Find Your Story Within Contest.” To enter, visit my website each week and check out the writing prompts. Each prompt will have a different theme from The Story Within: New Insights and Inspiration for Writers such as voice, setting and plot. This week’s prompt is focused on voice.

Finding your voice is a critical part of your growth as a writer.

More than your style, your voice is an expression of your personality on the page, and it often emerges naturally when you write a letter. In no more than 250 words, write a letter to someone you trust, someone who likes you, someone who knows you well. It has been said that we value most that which we miss. To connect with your inner voice, the letter should answer the following question: “What do I miss?” It can be anything– from a person you loved to the scent of honeysuckle.

To enter, send an email to thestorywithinbook@gmail.com with your full name, email address and written entry. Entries can be within the body of the email or attached in a Word document. Week one entries are due on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. Laura will choose a winner each week. The week one winner will be announced on Friday, January 20.
